JAGUAR was first established in 1932 by the Schmidt family, who went on to market products under this brand for 50 years. Two of the brothers sold their stake to Zwilling J.A. Henckels AG in 1988, and Zwilling became the sole owner in 2004. Three years later, the Solingen-based firm also acquired TONDEO. Founded in 1928 and also based in Solingen, TONDEO had been integrated into Wella AG as a subsidiary back in 1980.

The two brands were combined to form a single company, UNITED SALON TECHNOLOGIES GmbH, in 2013. Until 2021 they have operated as the independent business unit of Werhahn KG responsible for hairdressing products. UST has been part of CERTINA HOLDING AG since May 2021.
